goodbye livejournal?

Aug. 1st, 2009 | 11:08 pm

mmm... it just struck me that there actually isn't much point for me to keep writing here because it's all for me and me only. i don't think i come across as someone interesting to anyone and at the same time i find it hard to locate interesting people to add as friends either.

i'd be sad to ditch livejournal but there is not enough reason to carry on. it has a sentimental value but it's just a blog and i live in the real world - maybe i should focus on getting a healthy social life instead of floating around in the cyber space looking for 'friendships'.

why have i become such a bloody bore?

my new project on flickr

Jun. 21st, 2009 | 05:30 pm

as promised to myself, i started a list of 'things' that are meaningful to me one way or another, in the form of photos on flickr. the objects include postcard, shoes, face cream, bike and enamel dish...

i'm careful not to fall into the 'disposable' culture which seems to be dominant these days and i try to keep my possessions for a long time. however i seem to have a tendency of moving house every now and then and things are either lost or have to go to the charity shops >.< anyway now i have somewhere to store away my memorabilia forever which makes me happy!

driving fun

Jun. 16th, 2009 | 11:18 pm

whilst having dim sum for lunch last friday, it suddenly struck me that i should get myself a car. i enjoy driving and going places however i've hardly driven since i passed my test 2 years ago. sadly i think i've gradually lost confidence in my skills, though i dream of driving in sleep i can't quite see myself doing it in reality, thinking that i may stall or something...

but then on friday i realised that actually i could change the situation!! (1) compared to 2 years ago i'm in a better financial position these days (2) summer is about to begin with the longest day just around the corner so it's a good time to get a car, drive to the country/ seaside and do walks, which both r and i enjoy (and i really want to go to bitchy head!) (3) street parking is free and seems quite safe in the neighbourhood i live (4+) the more i thought of it the more good reasons i was able to find! funny how this idea did not cross my mind earlier!

so my resolution is to get a cheap used car to practise in, see how it goes in the next few years then decide if i want to/ can afford getting a nice car.

been looking at many ads on the web and found this one which looks pretty good. i spoke to the dealer today he sounded friendly and said he would text me his shop's address so i could see the car and test drive it this weekend. however no text has been received and i could find NOTHING about his shop on the internet. the name should be 'deals on wheels' and the location is 'kensal green, london'. this is making me slightly worried that it may be a scam...

what do you think? advice?

a cat, a man, and two women

Jun. 9th, 2009 | 01:48 pm

I recently read a few amusing short stories by Junichiro Tanizaki. The observations are clever and the translation from Japanese to English by Paul McCarthy seems more than adequate, in the way that the writing remains very conversational and 'Japanese'. The product review calls Tanizaki's book 'comic realism', not without good reason!

antarctica and more

May. 28th, 2009 | 09:27 pm

on tuesday i watched werner herzog's 2007 documentary 'encounters at the end of the world' in the cinema, it was terrific to see the vibrant colours of nature on big screen and hear the electronic sounds of seals. life in antarctica seems to have a strangely comforting quality, out of this world. on the way home we were discussing various things in the film, at some point i said, given that i don't have any skills in science, if i want to go to antarctica i could perhaps learn to do massage and provide it as a service to the travellers/ adventurers.

that night i dreamt, a lot. one of the fragments is that r came into the room/ flat from somewhere, covered in sweats, high on adrenaline and was happy. apparently he had just had a massage, which in my dream i must have immediately associated with sex. i felt that i'd been abandoned and that he was leaving me for the sexy massage girl, whose face i can't remember (a shadow). heart-broken, i left him before he could leave me; i was running away and i seem to remember that he was chasing after me.

subsequently when i was awake and in the shower, still thinking about my vivid dreams, i managed to make a connection among these things: massage/ girl/ love/ sex/ me/ him. it struck me that in fact i was dreaming about him being stolen by another me!
